Sky and the Future of Online TV

Wil Grace and Steve Johnson, AllofUs

Sky has been delivering Online TV since 2005. Since then it has grown from a value add-on service for existing Sky customers into a true alternative to the satellite TV model, and looks to be a serious contender in the growing market.

AllofUs have been responsible for the Sky Player interface and user experience since 2005, seeing it through a series of iterations from desktop application, Flash interface, Silverlight player through to recent releases on Xbox, Windows Media Center and the upcoming IP TV platform.

Wil and Steve will discuss some of the design and UX challenges they faced in adapting the Sky Player service to these new platforms and technologies, particularly in balancing native service paradigms with customer expectations. AllofUs have been commissioned to create a longterm vision to ensure consistency across Sky Player services, creating a seamless experience between TV, PC, Mobile and Console.

Their presentation will frame Sky Player within the context of the current digital landscape and give an insight into the growth of Online TV and the issues designers address in adapting interfaces for 10ft consumption.
